Salty Soul: Jamaica with Brittany

I am the Communications and Sales Manager at Washed Ashore and this past November I had the opportunity to travel to Montego Bay, Jamaica. Below are some of my tips on what to pack, what to eat, and where to go!

WHAT TO PACK

Pack easy to style clothing, swimsuits, and accessories. Personally, I packed mostly dresses and jumpsuits as they don’t need much thought when it comes to styling. Wrap dresses are my personal favorite and flattering for every body type! And of course, I always pack my favorite Washed Ashore jewelry no matter where I am heading to. For this vacation I packed my Lorelei Earrings, Sunset Choker, Rhea Necklace, Breaker Lariat, and Kai Hand Chain.

WHAT TO EAT

Jamaican food is similar to most Caribbean cuisine in the sense that for every meal there is always rice, poultry, fish, and a vegetable. During breakfast, the hotel served white rice, collard greens, beef liver, conch, and steamed potatoes. Lunch was barbequed jerk chicken, rice and beans with a mixture of fresh steamed veggies. My favorite, which I couldn’t get enough of was the curry goat and oxtail. In the states, oxtail is hard to find so I was delighted when it was made available almost every day.
PRO TIP: Try to eat food traditional to the island you’re visiting. It will always be more fresh and flavorful because it is native to the land.

WHERE TO GO

I stayed at Rui Reggae, which is an all-inclusive adults only resort. Next door were two other Rui resorts that were accessible. I tried to take advantage of the free amenities that came with the hotel including peddle-boating, paddle boarding, and kayaking. We also went snorkeling and cruised around the Jamaica coast (one of my favorite parts!)
